ALF

Host: Today I am talking with the Bixby Center ghost.

Ghost: Actually, I prefer the term alternate life-force.  Ghost has such a negative connotation these days.  And I don’t haunt … I reside at Bixby.  Haunting implies scaring, and I have never scared anybody.

Host: Ok, understood.  Would you like to tell our readers your name?

ALF: Well, I used to have a name but now I just go by Alf … get it … Alternate Life-Force.

Host: Alright then, Alf, how did you come to reside at the Bixby Center?

ALF: Ah yes, you see I have resided here long before Bixby was built.  Over 100 years ago, back when I was alive, I was hunting rabbits for dinner.  What I didn’t realize was that a bear was hunting me for dinner.  When I saw the bear I climbed a tree.  Did you know that bears can climb trees?  Let me tell you … they can … and pretty quickly too.  Wish I had known that over 100 years ago.

Host: So, what does that have to do with residing at Bixby?

ALF: Yes, yes, I was getting to that.  You see my body became bear poop but somehow my life-force became attached to that tree.  I felt at home there – until the tree was cut down to make way for this building.  The tree left but I stayed.  I’ve been in this building ever since.

Host: That is very interesting.  So if you have been in this building since it was built then you must have seen many changes.

ALF: So many, you have no idea.

Host: What was your favorite time period in this building?

ALF: I’d have to say that now is my favorite time period.

Host: Why is that?

ALF: Things are so exciting these days.  There is always so much happening.  Activities are going on, events are held, people are going places.  I’ve never seen so much hustle and bustle.  Yes sir, this is a great time to be an alternative life-force at Bixby Center.

Host: What are you favorite events or activities?

ALF: Of course my favorite event every year is the Halloween party.  Last year was so much fun I became visible and joined in the festivities.

Host: You let people see you?

ALF: Yeah, but it was ok, it was a Halloween party, everybody just thought I had on a cool ghost costume.

Host: Uh huh, so what else do you find interesting here at Bixby?

ALF: I don’t have a life anymore … literally, so I have to live vicariously through others.  That is why I’m so pleased that staff is doing people-centered planning.  With activities now designed with individual in mind, well, they enjoy their time here more.  Also, the people who are served here often don’t get out much.  With the staff making sure everyone get out two, three, or more times each month, people are just happier.  It warms my ethereal heart.

Host: That is about all the time we have for today.  Is there any last comment you would like to make?

ALF: Yes, I can’t wait until the next dance … I just love to BOO-gie.
